The Mwense subordinates’ court has convicted two depot clerks of Mwense District Cooperative Union for stealing 148 x 50 kilogramme bags of fertiliser.
Particulars of the offence were that Dillys Muya aged 22 and Jackson Chisanga aged 34 between September 7 and December 23, last year, jointly and while acting together stole 148 x 50 kilogramme bags of fertiliser valued at 66,600 Kwacha, property of Mwense District Cooperative Union.
When the matter came up for plea, the duo of chief Kashiba’s area in Mwense and employed by Mwense District Cooperative Union as depot clerks denied the charges.
However, after the examination of the matter, Mwense magistrate Moses Mulenga found the duo guilty and convicted them accordingly.
And in mitigation, Dillys Muya asked the court for lenience saying she was an orphan and looking after her aged mother and that she wanted to go back to school.
Meanwhile, the judgment for Jackson Chisanga was passed in his absentia because he ran away when the court adjourned the matter for judgment.
The convicts would now appear on August 30, 2016 for sentencing and if Chisanga who is on the run would not be re-arrested at that time, the sentence would again be passed in his absentia and would start serving the sentence at the time he will be re-arrested.  – ZANIS
