A Sixty-five-year-old man of Chibolya Township dragged his son-in-law to Kanyama Local Court for beating him and insulting him in full view of neighbours.
Geoffrey Chibungo sued John Tulambo, 35, of the same locality and narrated in court that he was shocked to see his son-in-law beat him just because he advised him to love and respect his wife.
He told the court that Tulambo was a cruel man who usually forced his wife to sleep outside whenever they had a quarrel.
Chibungo said Tulambo was disrespectful and insulted him on several occasions but that this time he decided to take him to court because he beat him.
He said from the time Tulambo married his daughter Temwani Chibungo in 2006, Tulambo insulted him and the whole family.
Chibungo said due to the insults and beatings, he decided to get his daughter from Tulambo’s house and sue him.
In defence, Tulambo said his father-in-law took his daughter away from him because he had intensions of marrying her off to another man.
He said he did not beat Chibungo but only told him that he was useless and not wise.
Tulambo said he called Chibungo unwise because he entered in their matrimonial bedroom and started shouting at him.
He said whenever he had a misunderstanding with his wife, Chibungo usually insulted Tulambo and told him that he was too poor to look after his daughter.
Magistrate Lewis Mumba ordered Tulambo to apologise  to Chibungo and ordered him to pay K3000 to Chibungo for insults and defamation.
