THE Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) has ordered the Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) to hold its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 21 next year without fail.
This was revealed by SCZ secretary general Emmanuel Phiri saying elections should be held without fail.
He said the letters over the SCZ decision had been sent to all ZBF affiliates.
Phiri said the election date was set as advised by the minister in order to have a new executive to run the affairs of boxing in the country.
“We have set the date for ZBF to hold its elective annual general meeting, they have to hold the elections on the 21st of January 2017, we have told ZBF to write to all associations to inform them about the development,” he said.
ZBF president Thomas Chileshe said he was happy with concerns by SCZ and the ample time given to them to prepare for the election January.
Chileshe thanked the current SCZ management for not being biased stating ZBF will adhere to the obligations given by SCZ.
He said the time given will allow all members that are willing to participate in the elections to prepare adequately.
“We are happy with the decision by SCZ, we shall oblige by the orders and make sure we fulfill it. It was an instruction of which we must respect, we thank the current management by SCZ for not being biased
and treating everyone fairly,” he said.
Chileshe said the elections are scheduled to take place in Kabwe which is the central place for all affiliates stating it was vital to start the new season with a new executive.
He urged the new executive that will be elected to come with new ideas that will help develop the sport in the country and embrace one another as they lead.
“The elections are scheduled to take place in Kabwe which is the central pace for all associations, I would like to urge those that will be elected to come with new ideas that will develop the sport in the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, SCZ said it would only issue its statement about ZBF move to impose an interim executive on MABA if both parties submit their constitutions to the national sports authority.
Phiri said ZBF had written to SCZ about the matter but the letter had not reached the board for discussion and will only decide the verdict after seeing the constitutions for MABA and ZBF.
