Driver, farmer fined over Mukula logs

Magistrate Moses Mulenga in Mansa district has ordered two people , a driver and a farmer to pay a fine of K 400 each for unlawful possession of Mukula trees.
Particulars were that on December 22, 2016, John Mukuya, 29 and William Mwila, 44 of Mansa and Mwense Districts respectively jointly and while acting together had in their possession 38 logs of Mukula tree worth  K 2, 512 without lawful authority.magistrate
Meanwhile, Magistrate Mulenga also sentenced Peter Kaunda, 47 of Lubunda chiefdom eight month simple imprisonment for assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
And a Fourty-six-year old small scale farmer of Lubunda chiefdom in Mwense district of Luapula province has been committed to the high court for mitigation and sentencing after he was convicted of defilement.
Facts before the court were that on August 11, 2016 Nkonde Mwansa had unlawful carnal knowledge of a child.
When the matter came up for plea, Mwansa pleaded not guilty but after examination of the offence, magistrate Moses Mulenga found him guilty and committed him to the high court for mitigation and sentencing.—ZANIS
