FIRST Lady Esther Lungu has urged Government to continue addressing issues that currently hinder the femalefolk from thriving in the country’s development agenda.
Ms Lungu said it was important to ensure that increased production and value-addition to products by women entrepreneurs was also accelerated.
“The economic empowerment of women is essential to our socio-economic development as a nation and it is my desire to do everything possible to ensure that women traders and entrepreneurs receive support,” Ms Lungu said.
She said this at State House in Lusaka yesterday when she received roofing sheets donated to the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust, which she chairs, by ClassEcon Roofing Africa Limited.
The consignment of 334 iron sheets from the Lusaka-based company was valued at K100, 000.
Ms Lungu commended ClassEcon, which is the first company to donate to her foundation this year, for the gesture and assured the firm that the roofing sheets would be delivered to the intended target groups.
She also praised ClassEcon management for giving prominence to the welfare of Zambians working in the firm.
At the same event, ClassEcon managing director Ashok Kumar Sood pledged that his institution would be readily available to support Ms Lungu and the Government in implementing progammes designed to uplift the welfare of the people.
