ZAMBIAN men and ladies teams have both qualified for the finals of the 2017 African Hockey Federation (AHF) Africa Cup for Nations Competition slated for South Africa in August.
The ladies prevailed in both games they featured in against Tanzania in the best of three to decide the winner to compete at the finals after other countries failed to turn up.
On Wednesday, Zambia beat Tanzania 3-1 before recording a 3-0 bashing over their hosts at the Sikh Union Complex in Arusha to join the already qualified top seven teams on the continent.
Janet Chisha’s double and a lone goal by Carol Nakombe was enough to send the ladies team to finals to be played from August 18-27 in Pretoria. The team were conferred with medals and a trophy for finishing as the tournament champions.
Meanwhile, the men’s team followed suit later when they bounced back from a 1-0 loss suffered at the hands of Tanzania by edging Malawi 3-1 to win the pool on goal difference. Malawi finished second with Tanzania in third place.
