Lungu - prayerBy CHUSA SICHONE  in Luwingu –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he does not have the power to determine who should be acquitted or arrested for breaking the law.
President Lungu said it was the duty of the courts to decide on the fate of law breakers and thus he would not in any way usurp the powers of the Judiciary.
Addressing a public gathering at Nsombo Basic School ground in Lupososhi area of Luwingu District on Friday, President Lungu said he was a God-fearing man who respected the laws of the land and would not go against that.
“All those who break the law will face the law! PF cadres have faced the law, some are in jail. UPND cadres have broken the law, some are in jail but the ones who decide who goes to jail or acquitted are the courts of the Republic of Zambia, not Edgar Chagwa Lungu. No.
“Some Christians are in jail, it is not a war against Christians when a Christian breaks the law and ends up in jail, it’s not a war against politicians when politicians break the law and end up in jail because that’s what the law says,” the Head of State said.
President Lungu urged the people in the area to embrace others from other regions and tribes under the spirit of ‘One Zambia One Nation’.
He said contrary to falsehoods being peddled, Zambia was at peace and intact under his watch and responsibility as Head of State.
“I am saying all this because there are some people who are going around saying, ‘no, we are about to secede, we are about to form our own government, our country or our own nation.’ There is nothing like that,” Mr Lungu said.
President Lungu further assured the gathering that the Government would during this year’s farming season perform better in the Farmer Input Support Programme and the e-voucher system because it had learnt lessons from last year’s mistakes.
Mr Lungu promised those engaged in fish farming that the Government would restock the water bodies in the area.
President Lungu thanked the people in the area for voting for the Patriotic Front in last year’s general elections and that the Government would continue being their servant and answerable to them, besides pledging to work on the road network and connecting the district to hydro and solar power before the next elections.
Earlier, President Lungu addressed party officials and civil servants at Lupososhi Boarding School and inspected construction works there.
