VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has appealed to officers in his office to be more efficient and responsive to the needs of the people.a
Dr Scott said his officers should be the flag bearers in service delivery since his office was the coordinator of Government projects.
“We have been put in power by the people to serve them and to provide them with some hope, some future, more education, better schools, better infrastructure, and better health for their children and the future generation,” Dr Scott said.
He said this during the launch of the Office of the Vice-President 2013-2016 Strategic Plan at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka yesterday.
The strategic plan would, among other things, define the mission, objectives, goals, strategies and expected outcomes for the Office of the Vice-President.
It would also guide operations, decision-making processes and utilisation of human and financial resources.
Dr Scott said the document was in line with the Patriotic Front (PF) manifesto which spelt out what the Government intended to achieve during its tenure of office.
He warned the officers not to ignore problems that might arise because they were not included in the strategic plan.
“Many problems land in my office every day and being the coordinator of Government, I don’t expect to hear that people have died out of starvation because the programme is not in the strategic plan,” he said.
The Vice-President appealed to the officers to also ensure proper utilisation of finances to diligently offer quality services to the people.
Dr Scott advised the officers in his office to ensure that they distributed the strategic plan as widely as possible for people to familiarise themselves with the document.
Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice-President Rosemary Musenge said the strategic plan was important given the role of the office played in national development.
Ms Musenge said the plan would ultimately enhance service delivery to the people of Zambia.
She said the strategic plan would also form the basis upon which the performance of the Office of the Vice-President would be measured.
