FORMER World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri’s return to the ring has to wait one more day after the promoters switched dates that coincided with the opening of the Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Ndola.
The Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) in conjunction with Exodus Boxing Stable and Mitanda boxing promotions international boxing tournament scheduled to take place on July 1 has been moved to July 2.
OQBP promotions manager confirmed the development in an interview yesterday saying July 1 would be the official opening of the Z ITF.
Malunga said the change was to allow a lot of people to have a chance to watch the boxing tournament and see the cream of boxers the country has.
He said it has been long since the Copperbelt had hosted such an important tournament hence the decision to move the fight to the following day.
“We had a meeting with the provincial minister yesterday where we discussed the way to go about the tournament. The first of July is the official opening of the Trade Fair and a lot of people will not manage to watch the fights because of the same, we shall have the event on July 2 to allow many people have a chance to watch,” he said.
