Chambishi MFEZ attracts $1.6bn investment

THE  development of the Chambishi Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) has advantage and 41 investors have been registered to operate in the zone with an accumulated investment commitments of US$1.6 billion.
This is at December, 2016.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said in an interview that to date, over US$180 million had been invested in the development of support infrastructure.

Ms Mwanakatwe said the support infrastructure which had been developed so far included the 14 kilometre of internal asphalt tarred roads and the installation of a 330 Kilovolts (kv) electricity substation and 66 kv and 10kv transmission lines.
Other developments are the water supply through borehole and rain water drainages and sewerage systems.
A 5,000-square metre general services building in the Central Business District (CBD) of the zone has been completed with the complementary facilities for administration, commerce, exhibition and training.
“The development of the Chambeshi MFEZ is progressing very well, with 10 standard workshops erected and  leased to various enterprises,” Ms Mwanakatwe said.
She said notable enterprises included NFC Mining Plc, Chambeshi Copper Smelter (CCS), Sino Metals Leach, Chambishi Foundry and Rolling Steel, JCHX Mining Construction and Reba Industrial Corporation Limited, among others.
The number of employees stands at 8,146 and is expected to increase.
