A PROPHET of Zani Muone area in Lusaka will have to defend himself after a widow of Chibombo dragged him told a court he had fleeced her of more than K10,000 by offering to bring back her late husband.
Angel, Sakala, 36, is charged with obtaining money by false pretences.
It is alleged that Sakala obtained K10,170 in cash from Beatrice Kasonde between March 16, 2017 and April 5, 2017  after convincing her that he was able to bring back to life her dead husband, Kennedy Kalunga.
According to the complaint before the court, grieving Ms Kasonde was introduced to Sakala by a friend who told her she knew of a man of God in Lusaka who could bring her husband back to life.
Ms Kasonde called the prophet and after explaining her problem to him, he suggested a face-to-face meeting with her.
When the meeting took place, prophet held her hands and started praying for her.
When he was done praying, he is said to have told the widow that her husband was not dead as claimed but that he was being kept by his grandmother in the corner of her house in some zombie state.
When reminded that Kalunga had been buried, the man of God is alleged to have told Ms Kasonde that what was contained in the coffin that was buried were not the remains of her husband but a load of charcoal.
Sakala is further said to have told Ms Kasonde that as her husband’s grandmother had not started ‘using, her husband, he would help her to bring him back as he was not yet dead.
Ms Kasonde is then said to have handed over her Automated Teller Machine ( ATM) to the prophet along with her PIN number to enable him use it for withdrawing money from her account to meet the expenses.
The transaction turned sour when Ms Kasonde found out that more than K10,000 had been withdrawn from her account by the man of God but with no sign yet that he was about to bring back her beloved late husband.
Chief resident magistrate Kenneth Mulife allocated Sakala’s case to magistrate Mary Chibanga where the prophet was expected to take plea.
However, by Press time, Ms Chibanga had not yet sat.
