NATIONAL boxing coach Wisdom Mudenda has hailed the attitude of his two boxer camped in Lusaka for the forthcoming world boxing championships in Germany later this month.
Welterweight Nkumbu Silungwe and light-heavyweight Mbachi Kaonga will be Zambia representatives at the world amateur boxing jamboree in Hamburg.
Apart from being impressed with physical fitness ahead of the games, Mudenda said the duo were fast learners and that the technical team drilling them was happy working with them.
He said Silungwe and Kaonga wereadapting well to the new tactics that will be useful at the world games.
“We are on course ahead of the world championships later month inGermany, the boxers are doing fine in training, they have goodpotential and we believe they can go far in the competition,” Mudenda said.
Mudenda said the technical team was working on a few lapses noticed during the Africa Boxing Championship in CongoBrazzaville from where they qualified to the world championships.
“I was a boxer too and I know the pressure that comes when you arepreparing for such a big competition, it’s about having self-beliefand determination. I really want to see them get at least a medal from these games,” he said.
Silungwe and Kaonga are the only boxers that qualified for the WorldChampionship from the five boxers that took part in the AfricaBoxing Championship in Congo Brazzaville.
