PSDP lends out K1.8bn

THE European Union financed Private Sector Development Programme (EU-PSDP) hit the K1.8 billion lending mark to micro-entrepreneurs by the end of the third quarter last year because of increased borrowing by small business entities.
According to the latest Zambia Quarterly Agenda, a EU delegation publication in Zambia, the amount was disbursed in loans to six companies to end the third quarter at that mark.
EU-PSDP supports micro-entrepreneurs through technical and business training to improve their skills and earnings from their businesses.
The EU says with the revitalisation of the Development Bank of Zambia, stability of applications for working capital guaranteed had now been assured.
This would further introduce the possibility of funding for business start-ups.
The publication also reveals that during the same period, some companies were rehabilitated under the Trade Enterprise Support Facility (TESF) while some others increased their production capacity through the TESF working capital guarantees.
