EUNIC Microsystems and Consultancy, a local firm, has been awarded a contract to install communication systems at Mansa, Kasama and Chipata airports at a cost of K261 million.
Company managing executive, John Nsama said under phase one, the company had completed the installation of long range wireless mobile phones at the Lusaka International Airport which improved communication within the airport.
Under phase two, the company is tasked to mount long range wireless mobile phones at the three airports.
Mr Nsama said in an interview in Lusaka that ECO Bank would finance the three projects estimated at K70 million.
“ECO Bank is our main financer for the project, one of its kind in Zambia, as you know it is not easy to get commercial banks to fund projects, especially as a local entrepreneur,” he said.
The introduction of the long range wireless mobile phone at the airports would not only enhance communication but cut down on costs.
He said the initiation of the wireless system would cut down on internal communication costs by 80 per cent, thereby stimulating growth.
“People will be able to talk to each other without charges within the institutions. This means that the time and money spent to call one office to the other will decline considerably,” Mr Nsama said.
He said there was need to introduce wireless mobile phones in rural areas for effective communication, especially in Government departments.
“We specifically target communication bottlenecks and provide solutions to our clients. Our clients include the mines, construction industry, tourism, agriculture, departmental stores and commercial banks,” he said.
