Defending champs Power to face Aero Strikers in Mosi Cup clash
By Sports Reporter
MOSI Cup defending champions Power Dynamos have been drawn away to Zambia Air Force (ZAF) sponsored Aero Strikers in Mbala in this Saturday’s sixth round matches.
According to the draws conducted at the Zambian Breweries (ZB) plant in Lusaka yesterday, Power will have a date with Strikers, the only amateur side still in this year’s competition.
The draws saw all the 16 FAZ Premier Division teams playing away to teams which qualified from the fifth round.
Last year’s semi-finalist Lusaka Dynamos will host Green Buffaloes, the team which tossed them out of the on-going Coca-Cola Cup, at Queensmead Stadium in a Lusaka derby while last year’s losing finalist Kabwe Warriors will be away in Kitwe at Nkwiza.
FAZ Premier defending champions Zanaco will guest at Indeni with current league leaders Red Arrows on the road to Kalomo to meet Midrum while in another Lusaka derby, Division Two South outfit Young Buffaloes will host National Assembly.
Eleven-time Premier Division champions Nkana will be in the capital city to play the third Zambia Army-sponsored side Riflemen as legendary cup fighters Mufulira Wanderers entertain Forest Rangers at Shinde Stadium.
The other fixtures are: Roan United v Young Arrows, Bwana Mkubwa v Nchanga Rangers, Lusaka City Council (LCC) v Konkola Blades and Chilanga Heroes v Nkwazi.
The rest of the games are Ndola United v Lusaka Celtic, Zambia National Service (ZNS) Green Eagles v Chambishi, Prison Leopards v Zesco United and TP Rangers v Kitwe United.
ZB corporate affairs director Augustine Seyuba said the competition had now reached a critical stage.
Seyuba said the tournament gave amateur sides much the needed exposure to learn from “big” teams though he was quick to say that it was sad that only Aero Strikers had survived to this stage.
Meanwhile, draws for the Coca Cola Cup semi-finals will be held on Thursday afternoon at ZB’s Mosi-O-Tunya Pub.
Last year’s losing finalist Red Arrows, Kabwe Warriors, National Assembly and Zanaco are the teams in this all midlands affair.
