ZRFU expenditure hits K500m

ZAMBIA Rugby Football Union (ZRFU) expenditure has shot up sharply with over K500 million being gobbled up in the first half of this year.
Without going into details, ZRFU committee member London Mwafulilwa attributed the rise in expenditure to the increase in international fixtures on the 2005 calendar.
Speaking during the Rhino Sevens cocktail party at Ndola Wanderers Club, Mwafulilwa said the total expenditure in just six months had escalated sharply.
He singled out international fixtures such as the France 2007 World Cup qualifiers as well as junior tournaments like the under -18 and the development of women’s rugby as major reasons for the increase.
And Rhino Sevens organising committee chairman Clavel Nguluta said this year’s tournament had improved tremendously due to the overwhelming support from companies which included Northern Breweries, Bwana Mkubwa Mining Limited, Barclays Bank, Invesco, Safetech, Setrap, Ndola Lime and First Quantum Mining Company.
Nguluta said his committee had refurbished the infrastructure which included the water reticulation system and the sportsmen’s bar at Ndola Wanderers in an attempt to upgrade the event.
And Northern Breweries sales manager Andrew Sunkutu said the company was delighted to be associated with the tournament hence the K30 million it staked this year.
