Zambia asked to present needs for All-Africa Games

By Sports Reporter

THE Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) has advised the Zambian Government to draw up a list of needs for the 2011 All-Africa Games scheduled for Lusaka.
SCSA general secretary Sonstone Kashiba said this after a two-day meeting of stakeholders in Algeria last month, which also saw the signing of the agreement for the 2007 All-Africa Games to be hosted by Algeria, Zambia was asked to forward its needs.
“We had a joint stakeholders meeting from November 27 to 28 in Algiers. Algeria has finalised all the preparations for the hosting of the 2007 All-Africa Games and the members felt that Zambia should table a list of things that they need the SCSA to help them with in the preparations of the 2011 All-Africa Games which they are hosting,” Kashiba said.
Kashiba, who is based at the SCSA secretariat in Cameroun, said the two-day meeting in Algiers, which was attended by the member confederations, zones and other stakeholders, requested Zambia to table their needs ahead of the 2011 continental Games.
Kashiba, who took up his position as general secretary in Cameroun in June this year, said Algeria was all set for the 2007 Pan-African Games and it was, therefore, incumbent upon the Zambian Government to table their needs for the SCSA executive to consider.
Kashiba said the SCSA had inspected all the sports facilities for the hosting of the 2007 games and it was now the wish of the SCSA to start helping Zambia, if they made a request on their needs.
The Zambian general secretary said the Algerian All-Africa Games would be held from July 5 to 20, 2007.
Kashiba is expected to travel to Ivory Coast today for a series of meetings with that country’s President, Laurent Gbagbo, the minister of finance and other stakeholders for a ground inspection of the SCSA projects.
He said as SCSA general secretary, he would meet high profile officials in Ivory Coast and explain the continental sports body’s projects and intentions.
The former director of sport said the joint stakeholders meeting in Algiers resolved that netball, canoeing, hockey and rugby would be on the original list for the All-Africa Games in Algieria, but the matter was referred to the SCSA executive committee for review.
