REGGAE musician Michael Zulu who has been plying his musical trade under the name St. Michael, says he has decided to turn his back on the Western culture and fall for the ghetto name of Maiko while dropping the Saint (St) at the same time.
This means all his works will no longer be coming out under the name of St. Michael but Maiko, which he believes is more African than his former alias.
Maiko said the change was done to maintain his African origin hence, the adoption of the local spelling of Maiko which is a common name in Eastern Province.
The dread-locked musician said the change was in line with his new year resolution to maintain his African culture.
“ I know a lot of people will ask why now, but there is always time for everything and this is my time to do this,” he said.
He announced that he was currently working on a new album to be called President Dread.
