MMD candidate Ng’ambi assured of Chifubu vote

By Times Reporter

SOME marketeers at Chifubu Market in Ndola have resolved to vote for MMD candidate Frank Ng’ambi in the August 5 parliamentary by-election.

Zambia National Marketeers Association (ZANAMA) Chifubu Branch women’s chairperson, Florence Sichinga said in an interview yesterday the marketeers had resolved to work with the Government of the day and promised full support for Mr Ng’ambi and the MMD.

Ms Sichinga said the women were happy with the Government’s commitment to ensuring women marketeers accessed the women empowerment funds which she said would help them sustain their families.

She said so far, 390 marketeers had applied for the empowerment funds following advice from Community Development and Social Services Minister Michael Kaingu for them to apply for the money.

“We cannot vote for the opposition because we have realised that it is only the government in power which can take care of our needs and this is why we are assuring the MMD Government that we will give Mr Ng’ambi our vote, come August 5,” Ms Sichinga said.

She said the marketeers were confident the funds would be given to them as promised by the minister two weeks ago.

Ms Sichinga, who was flanked by Chifubu Market ZANAMA chairperson Mathews Mubanga, said the women were happy the Government had committed itself to supporting them.

And UNIP candidate in the Chifubu parliamentary by-election, Poko Mambwe has expressed concern at the increase in threats of violence between MMD and PF youths whenever they meet in the field campaigning for their candidates.

Mr Mambwe said yesterday that although his party members were campaigning freely throughout the Constituency, there were a number of incidents where the MMD and PF campaign camps were drawn into near punch-ups.
