AFRICA Boxing Union (ABU) defending champion Alfred Muwowo (Ibrahim Muhammad) has vowed to defend his title when he faces South African Delisizwe Komani on December 30 at Government Complex.
Speaking in an interview yesterday Muwowo said he was not under pressure to defend his title, come December 30.
He said he was ready and not under pressure to defend his title adding he was not ready to lose it any time soon as he continues to grow in his boxing career.
“Training is going smooth and I am ready to defend my title. I am not under pressure because I know what is ahead of me. I have endured a lot of pain which leaves me with no option but to fight and conquer,” Muwowo said.
Muwowo said he was not going to underrate his opponent in any way but would rather concentrate on his preparations.
He said his coaches are doing everything possible to make sure he is ready for the fight against Komani.
“Being in the ring is what I love, that’s my job and I must work hard to impress and earn a living from it. I have been in camp since the time I won the title and have made sure I follow the coach’s instructions strictly,” he said.
Meanwhile, WBC silver welterweight champion Lorita Muzeya has vowed to defeat Malawian boxer Ruth Chisale.
Muzeya said she had prepared well for the fight and was equal to task as she was aware of what was at stake.
“I don’t believe in saying a lot of words but I would rather express myself in the ring. I am not disputing that she is a good boxer but my levels of fitness are a motivation in everything I do,” Muzeya said.
She said the coaches have continued to work hard to make sure they are ready for the big tournament ahead of them.
“This fight is very important for me and I must put in all my level best. I want to grow in my boxing career and this should be a stepping stone for me. Winning the fight would be good for me as I will move up and challenge for WBC gold title,” she said.
A total of six bouts have been lined up for the tournament of which four are international fights while two will be local fights.
