A POLICE officer of Lundazi Police Station has been sentenced to two years and four months imprisonment with hard labour for corruption by the Chipata Magistrates Court.
Resident Magistrate Destiny Kalusopa found Dominic Chiboboka, 30, of House No. C18, Lundazi Boarding School, a Prosecutor at Lundazi Police guilty of one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer Police contrary to section 19 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
Particulars of the offence were that Chiboboka in January 2016 in Lundazi, being a public officer, namely Zambia Police Public Prosecutor based at the Lundazi Police corruptly solicited for K3,000 and received K2,000 cash from John Nyirenda of Mkawa Village in Lundazi, in order for Chiboboka to facilitate the withdrawal of a case of rape that he was prosecuting involving Tenthema Nyirenda, a nephew to John Nyirenda.
Chiboboka was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in January last year.
Meanwhile, the Lundazi Magistrates’ Court also convicted two community crime prevention officers namely Joseph Demba, 58, of Kamwezi village in Chief Zumwanda’s area and Alick Lungu, 52, of Chanyalubwe in Chief Zumwanda’s area who were jointly charged with One (1) count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer contrary to section 19 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012. The duo was sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from March 23, 2015.
Details were that Demba and Lungu, on dates unknown, but between March 9, and March, 15, 2015 in Lundazi, being public officers, namely community crime prevention officers under the Lundazi Police Neighbourhood Watch, jointly and whilst acting together corruptly solicited and actually received K360 cash from Bydon Zimba as a bribe in order not to formally report the allegations of murder against him and his family to the police.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by ACC corporate affairs officer Jonathan Siame.
