NKANA Squash Club is set for US$50,000 (about K295,000) rehabilitation that is expected to commence this month.
Club chairperson Sven Philblad said in an interview in Kitwe that the renovation works are expected to take two months to complete with Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) PLC being the main corporate sponsor of the project.
“We have been able to engage some corporate sponsors to assist us with renovating this club to the standard we need. We have been able to engage sponsors to a tune of $50,000 specifically for the renovation of this club and to get the three courts to international standards.
Mopani are putting in 80 per cent of this $50, 000 the other sponsors, who I believe are pretty much equal, are Atlas Copco and Barloworld,” he said.
Philblad said the works will also include overhaul of all ablution facilities, flooring and roofing at Nkana Squash Club.
He said the process was as good as complete because the contractor to do the job has been identified and that works should start sometime this month,” he said.
Philblad added that the club would remain open but at half capacity for patrons and their junior programme to continue function but that the glass court would not be part of the renovation works.
“We have not managed to get our sponsor to cover the glass court because there is substantial work to be done there but if we get the basic building in good nick then we should be able to get somebody for that court,” he said.
