THE first consignment of 950 tonnes of imported onion from South Africa has arrived in the country and is expected to help address the current shortage of the commodity on the local market.
The consignment is part of the 3,500 tonnes of onions that will be imported into the country every month to mitigate the shortage and stabilise the prices.
Zambia Fruits and Vegetables Association (ZFVA) says it had by yesterday offloaded about 90 tonnes of onion on the local market while Potatoes and Allied Products Association (OPAPA) has imported about 50 tonnes of the commodity.
