THE Maamba thermal project is a vital step in creating multiple sources of energy and reducing dependency on hydro-electricity which is susceptible to volatile climatic changes, President Hakainde Hichilema has said.
President Hichilema said this when he laid a foundation stone for the construction of the Phase II of the 300 Mega Watts Maamba Energy thermal power plant in Sinazongwe District of Southern Province yesterday.
He said Zambia’s energy inefficiencies were because of mono-dependency on hydro electricity, but that the Maamba thermal plant would actualise the energy mix needed for the country.
