INDIA has pledged humanitarian assistance of 2,500 tonnes of maize to help mitigate the impact of the drought.
Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Singh said India was also working on the proposal of gifting 100 solar powered irrigation pumps to Zambia and 500 sewing and 100 embroidery machines to support the empowerment of women.
Speaking during the sixth session of the Zambia- India Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Singh said Zambia was India’s development partner and it was for that reason that it had extended four times of credit worth US$107.03 million in the various sectors such as the Itezhi-Tezhi hydro-power project, 650 pre-fabricated health posts, commercial vehicles and vocational toolkits.
