ZAMBIA’s copper production increased by about 30 per cent in the first quarter of this year from 172,548.6 tonnes in 2024 to 224, 103.8 tonnes, with Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) contributing 16, 846.7 tonnes.
KCM was the biggest winner as it posted a 2000-per cent increase in its output.
Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe said the government was elated that the mining sector had continued showing positive growth.
Addressing a media briefing on the first quarter of 2025 performance of the mining sector in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Kabuswe said Zambia’s largest assets in KCM and Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) started production after a painful transition from many difficult years.
