‘Cotton production to be revived’

THE Government and the Cotton Board of Zambia (CBZ) will introduce measures to revive cotton production in the country which has deteriorated in the last 15 years.
Zambia’s cotton production dropped by 2,000 tonnes to 9, 000 tonnes during the 2024/2025 farming season from the 11, 000 tonnes recorded in the previous one.
Acting CBZ executive director, Derrick Sichilima attributes last season’s reduced yields to persistent jassid and red spider pest infestations in cotton fields across the country.
Mr Sichilima said in an interview that before the devastating pest attacks, the board anticipated the country to produce up to 30, 000 tonnes of cotton in the season under review.
