100 MW solar PV plant coming

ZESCO and Jigsco Energy Corporation will build a 100 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Chirundu District which will gobble about US$90 million to complete.
The two corporations had contracted China PowerChina International to execute the works in 10 months, with the project expected to create about 600 jobs in Katobola during the construction phase and at least 100 permanent employment opportunities after completion.
The investment involved a 100 MW solar PV power plant, a 33/330 kilovolt substation and a 15 km transmission line connecting to the Kafue Gorge Upper grid.
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote, who officiated at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony in Katobola yesterday, said with the energy mix of hydropower and solar power, among others which the Government had adopted, he was optimistic that Zambia would be moving towards attaining energy sufficiency.
