KAPISHA hot spring in Chingola is a tourist attraction visitors to the mining town should seek to include in their programme.
It is a natural wonder situated near Kapisha and Kafunka streams, which pour their waters into Kafue River.
A hot spring is a natural spring producing warm water, usually at a temperature above that of the human body.
Kapisha Township was named after the hot spring, which is a fascinating sight.
The sad story is that Kapisha hot spring is not known to many visitors to Chingola because it has not been marketed to the public.
A Chingola resident, Emmanuel Chinyanta told the Copperbelt Times that some Government officials had toured the hot spring and promised to publicise it.
“But the promises have died a natural death because nothing has been done about this natural wonder,” Mr Chinyanta said.
He said Zambia’s colonial masters discovered and built a concrete wall around the hot spring to allow water to flow into a small stream.
“As residents of Kapisha Township, we are calling on our civic leaders and President Edgar Lungu to find a contractor to develop Kapisha hot spring to allow tourists and investors to visit the place,” Mr Chinyanta said.
“People only go to Chimfunshi wildlife orphanage along Chingola-Solwezi Road without knowing that there is also Kapisha hot spring in Chingola which can be turned into a tourism venture.”
