By JULIUS PHIRI –

SPORTS Minister Chishimba Kambwili has said Government intends to place four golf clubs under the care of the Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ).

Kambwili said in Chipata yesterday when he toured sports facilities that Government would hand over the golf courses to the SCZ in a bid to instil discipline in the manner they were being run.

He said the SCZ would oversee the Chipata, Livingstone, Kasama and Roan clubs and that the Government would provide the necessary resources that would be required to run the facilities.

“We shall be handing over golf courses to the Sports Council of Zambia and Government will provide funding to the board. I believe doing this will bring about sanity in the operations of these facilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kambwili expressed sadness at the deplorable state of David Kaunda Stadium, saying there was urgent need to carry out maintenance works on the facility.

“The playing turf of this stadium is in unacceptable standards. I am recommending that it should be closed to allow for rehabilitation works as funds have already been set aside,” Kambwili said.
