‘Don’t blame power deficit on Lungu’

THE current power deficit should not be blamed on President Edgar Lungu because there has not been significant investment in power generation in the last 40 years, former Energy Sector and Allied Workers Union general secretary Yotam Mtayachalo has said.

Mr Mtayachalo said it was wrong for people, especially opposition political parties and the labour movement to apportion the blame on President Lungu because the problem was historical.
“But it is unfair and shameful to blame President Lungu for the power deficit when it is a known fact that there has never been significant investment in power generation since 1974.
Mr Mtayachalo said there was no time for finger-pointing and politicising the problem because it affected everyone regardless of political or religious affiliation.
He challenged everyone to find a solution to the problem before the economy was distorted unlike pointing accusing fingers.(Continued on Page 2)
