HIS aim in life was to fight vices which are eroding morals in society like corruption.

A dark cloud has once again cast its painful shadow over the music fraternity with the death of 32-year-old Jordan Sinkala, the leading vocalist of the well-liked musical group Impi.

Jordan breathed his last on Friday morning last week after an illness.

According to tradition, on Monday morning despite heavens opening up with a heavy downpour, music, performing artistes together with fans converged and jam-packed Lusaka Playhouse to pay their last respects to this great inspirational singer known as the ‘Assegai’ (short stabbing spear).

Jordan’s casket was shoulder-lifted into the Lusaka Playhouse around 10:00 hours by fellow musicians.

And former Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) president Maiko Zulu, described the late Jordan as one young committed artiste whose lyrics still have power to change society.

“Jordan’s death is not in vain as he set a serious example for the artistes and preached against corruption telling the Government where it was going wrong without fear. He was a force to reckon with,” he said.

Zulu took advantage of the huge gathering to call for unity among t artistes if the music industry was to flourish.

“God knows no religion, which is why we have to be united as musicians and grow our industry because each one of us will be accountable to God for the talent He gave us. How did you use it? Jordan ran his race as a very committed member of ZAM to try and promote unity. Let us please unite” he said.

Among the mourners, was a representative from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) who described the passing of Jordan as a huge blow to the commission as he and his partner were crusaders in the fight against corruption.

His famous songs Bantalamisoka and Basakala Nyongo were bought as crusade tracks by the ACC to help fight corruption.

The Basakala Nyongo track which hit the Zambian airwaves in 2011 just before the general elections has rich lyrics talking about how humble politicians become in an election period as they come to ask for votes but forget the voters after they win by not fulfilling their campaign promises. Jordan was laid to rest at the old Leopards Hill cemetery with Bishop Edie Mulenga leading the committal. MHSRIP
