VICE PRESIDENT Inonge Wina has prodded political party leaders in Zambia to be messengers of a united Zambia.
Ms Wina said yesterday when she attended the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Matero congregation in Lusaka that it is unfortunate that some leaders are preaching messages of tribalism and regionalism.
“We need to maintain peace and unity and leaders should speak against tribalism,” Ms Wina said.
She said Zambians were one people and should live peacefully together.
Ms Wina said yesterday was a special day that invited a new start of forgiveness and reconciliation because it was a day of prayer.
She urged family members to forgive each other.
Ms Wina said time had come to repent and pray for forgiveness within families and communities.
She was happy that Zambia had acknowledged the power of God because countries that did not ask for God’s blessings faced numerous challenges including war.
UCZ Reverend Lubinda Sitali said suffering was part of human nature.
Rev Sitali said low water levels and low prices of copper was part of human suffering.
He, however, said like in the Biblical times, Zambia needed to seek God’s intervention.
Rev Sitali said he was confident that God after yesterday’s committal to prayer had given citizens power to overcome various challenges.
He also called on Zambians to be responsible in the manner they conducted themselves.
Rev Sitali said it was not enough to pray for God’s help but it was equally important to work genuinely hard for the prosperity of Zambia.
“Civil servants and every Zambian should do their part and develop the nation. We have so many resources and yet we are not self sufficient,” Rev Sitali said.
