Simenda’s chess woes worsen

BUDDING chess player Daisy Simenda’s troubles  worsened at the on-going African Youth Championship in South Africa as she suffered her fourth defeat to drop into eighth place.
Simenda lost to a highly rated Women Fide Master (WFM) Amina Maouchi of Algeria to remain on four points.
Maouchi is on 5.5 points on the chart led by Inge Marx of South Africa who has six points.
Simenda, coming from a seventh round win over Phumuzile Moyo of Zimbabwe, was by press time yesterday taking on non-rated Maria Niilenga of Namibia in the final round nineth game of the championship on board six.
In the under-12 boy’s category, Wilson Takanaka posted a draw against Kelvin Tameka of Mozambique to move to three points following his seventh round win over Zimbabwe’s Jonathan Mashingaidze.
He was yesterday scheduled to face Philip Carl Herrmann of Namibia in the round nine tie.
Meanwhile, eight-year-old Lwiindi Komana pulled a surprise by registering his first win of the competition in the under-eight event beating Gareth Sibanda of Zimbabwe in his round eight encounter.
Komana, who had endured defeats in the past matches, was by Press time taking on Tinaye Madamombe of Zimbabwe in the last game.
The competition that came to a close today saw nine countries taking part and these included Algeria, Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
