7 athletes get NOC scholarships

THE National Olympics Committee (NOC) has awarded scholarships to seven athletes from various sports disciplines to help Zambia chase down the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Newly  elected  NOC  Secretary  General  Boniface  Kambikambi said the move was aimed atensuring that Zambian athletes performed well at the games.
Kambikambi said some of the notable athletes included are runners Sidney Siame,Kabange Mupopo, Hazemba Chidamba and Suwilanji Mpondela.
Other making it in will be swimmers Ralph Goveia and Tilka Paljk with Benny Muziyo the only boxer granted the IOC scholarship.
He said these were picked followed meticulous monitoring of their performance in the last few years by the NOC and the potential they had to deliver.
“These guys have a higher chance of giving us what we want at the Tokyo Olympics,” he said.
Kambikambi said the new board which was ushered in office will ensurethat they implement the strategic plan to improve the face of theorganisation.
He said the new members of the NOC were dedicated individuals whowould deliver according to the mandate.
“We have a huge task ahead of us and we are going to ensure that ourefforts as a board record a success story,” he said.
Kambikambi also said he was happy that he had been given the mandatein the NOC and that he would not disappoint because he had acquiredthe much needed experience.
