THE Ministry of General Education has urged school authorities to uphold Government’s policy of retaining learners whether they have paid school fees in full or not as they open for the 2018 school academic calendar.
General Education spokesperson Nondo Chilonga said the current policy of Government was that school authorities should not prevent learners from accessing education on account of non-payment of school fees.
Ms Chilonga said parents that were unable to pay school fees in full ought to engage with school authorities and discuss favourable modalities of paying, she said this yesterday in a Press statement.
Ms Chilonga said it was Government’s plan to see all Zambians access quality education despite their status in life, hence the need for schools to engage parents facing challenges of raising school fees for their children.
“As you may be aware in line with the Seventh National Development Plan and also guided by the three principles of equity, redress and access, no pupil should be turned away on account of non-payment of school fees,” Ms Chilonga said.
She said parents should, therefore, be able to engage school management in order to work together for the benefit of the learners without resorting to destabilising operations of the schools.
