By STEVEN ZANDE –
THE Movement for National Transformation (MNT) has called on the two MMD factions to stop fighting one another and resolve outstanding issues for the sake of democracy in Zambia.
MNT founder Daniel Shamunza said being a party that helped reintroduce multiparty politics in Zambia, citizens expected the MMD to provide visionary leadership that would contribute to democratic growth and national development.
“Recent violent attempts at Dr Nevers Mumba’s residence last week should not be allowed in a in a civilised nation like Zambia,” Mr Shamunza said.
He said in a statement yesterday that it was wrong for MMD to sponsor youths to harm their counterparts, saying democracy was achieved through consensus.
Mr Shamunza said the two MMD factions should put personal interests aside so that the leadership could save the party from extinction.
Politicians who fan violence should be censured and disqualified from contesting political office.
Mr Shamunza said there was need for strong laws which should be enforced to stop political violence.
The said the use of youths in fanning violence should be stopped considering that this negatively affected the future of the youths.
