GOVERNMENT has started the construction of the 64 health posts in Luapula Province, under the 650 targeted for construction around the country.

Health Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya said he was happy with the pace at which the project was progressing.

Speaking when he toured one of the sites in Chisongo Village of Mansa, Dr Chilufya said more than 1000 jobs would be created in the 64 sites.

The deputy minister was pleased with the equal opportunities awarded to both women and men with regard to execution of the projects.

“As we create access to health facilities we also want to ensure that citizens are provided with jobs. Of the 64 health facilities 10 will be built within Mansa Central and Bahati constituencies,” he said.

The project is currently being undertaken by an Indian company called Angelique International limited and a local sub contractor Mumwi Contractors and General Dealers.

The sub contractor’s director, Godfrey Mwila was confident that 29 of the 64 health posts would be complete in three months.

He said Government was closely monitoring the project to ensure it was completed within the stipulated time frame.
