MTN Zambia has announced that the overall winner of its Golf Challenge tournament will earn an all-expense paid for trip to the United States of America (USA) to watch the 2015 US Open Golf Championship which is part of the prestigious PGA tour.
According to an MTN Zambia statement, the winner will be picked from the two MTN Golf Challenge tournaments to be hosted later this year.
MTN Zambia chief marketing officer Clement Asante said the mobile service provider would host two tournaments this year with the first set for August 22 in Lusaka while the other one is slated for October 31 in Kitwe with the overall winner over the two legs claiming the ultimate prize.
Asante said this year’s prize is meant to inspire golfers in Zambia to aim for the highest laurels in the sport.
He said competition has become an annual tournament which MTN Zambia uses as a platform to engage with high value and corporate customers while making a contribution to the development of golf in the country.
Asante said MTN Zambia raised funds, through a similar tournament last year, to sponsor the Drive Range at Nkana Golf Club.
“Zambia is fast becoming a popular golf destination of choice as our golf courses over the years are being upgraded to international standards with and exciting courses. The next stage is to groom a number of local golfers to play at the highest level.
“This can only be attained with continued investment in the sport and exposing of our players to the world’s best facilities and biggest platforms,” he said.
The 2014 MTN Golf Challenge tournament which will attract more than 160 players will use the stableford scoring format.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour US Open Championship is one of the world’s most acclaimed golf tournaments attracting the game’s greatest players including Tiger Woods and golfer of the moment Rory Mcllroy.
