A THREE-year-old boy of Senama Village in Chief Chitakwa’s area in Mansa has drowned in a shallow well.
Deborah Sashi, 22, on Wednesday around 15:45 hours saw her son fall in a shallow well at Senama Clinic but failed to rescue him because the cover on the well was too heavy.
Luapula Province police chief, Malcolm Mulenga said that the boy went with his grandmother to visit a patient at Senama Clinic in Senama Village in Mansa.
Mr Mulenga said the boy went behind the clinic to play when he fell in the partially covered shallow well.
“The mother rushed to the well and tried to remove him but due to the heaviness of the cover of the well she failed and eventually the boy drowned,” he said.
By the time police were getting to the scene, they found that Mansa fire fighters had retrieved the body and the mother could not give any other details on the matter.
Meanwhile, a man of Chandwe Village in Chief Nsama’s area in Nsama District has been arrested for allegedly hacking his wife’s left buttock in a dispute.
Mr Mulenga said Warren Simwinga, 36, hacked his wife Stephania Ng’onga, 34, with an axe on Thursday last week around 08:00 hours at Chandwe Village.
He said she sustained a deep cut and the husband was arrested for unlawful wounding.
Mr Mulenga said the fight between the two started after the wife questioned the husband over an extra-marital affair he was allegedly having.
He said the man instead picked up an axe and hacked his wife on her left buttock.
