By CHILA NAMAIKO –
GOVERNMENT has threatened to repossess more than 130 undeveloped plots at Choma’s Harmony Resettlement Area.
The plots have remained undeveloped for 14 years.
Deputy Minister in the office of the Vice-President, Davies Mwango, has since directed Southern Province principal land resettlement officer Josephat Siajapa to audit all undeveloped plots in the area.
The residents at the resettlement area on Sunday complained during a meeting with Mr Mwango that the plots were undeveloped despite them having no land for ownership.
Resettlement chairperson, Edward Mudenda said Government sold pieces of land to people in 1999 from the area and that 130 plots were still undeveloped due to the absence of the owners.
Mr Mwango said Government would repossess the plots in question and empower the locals in which majority of them were squatters at the resettlement area.
“If the owners of these plots haven’t done anything up to date, it means they don’t want their land, we have to give other serious developers,” he said.
