A FISHERMAN of Kapambwe Village in Chief Mushota’s area in Kawambwa District has drowned in Luena Stream hours after informing his relatives that he was sick.
Sipiliano Kanchule, 68, was apparently sick when he went to check on his fishing nets that he had placed days before he died in unexplained circumstances.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that Mr Kanchule died on Sunday between 08:00 hours and 18:00 hours.
He said the deceased on Sunday, had informed his relatives that he was not feeling well but that he still insisted on checking on his fishing nets that he placed on Thursday last week.
“Despite complaining of a headache, he forced himself to the stream to check on his nets. Visual inspection of the body showed that the body had no physical injuries,” Mr Mulenga said.
Mr Mulenga said the deceased’s niece Beatrice Phiri of Chembe Village in Chief Mushota’s area in Kawambwa District, reported the matter to Mushota Police Post.
He said Police had handed the body to the relatives of the deceased for burial.
