PETER

PETER

By SAM PHIRI –

LAST Saturday to Sunday morning, late reggae legend Peter Tosh’s disciples converged at the Munda Wanga Botanic Gardens in Lusaka to commemorate his 27th anniversary.
Successful as expected, yes, although the numbers seemed to have reduced this year compared to other previous years.
One wonders whether it was due to a fear factor that most of these followers ended up celebrating their legend’s life behind bars as they were found in possession of the ‘prohibited herb’.
Basically though, on the line-up of musicians there was no much difference like that of the previous years.
The stage was rocked by the likes of Bantu Roots led by Khuzwayo Chisi, Crucial Lions, True Africans, Ras Anada and his Negus Tafari.
Some up-and-coming reggae musicians were also given platform to perform at the show to perhaps make a permanent registration on the local reggae front.
Mike of Germany also performed with local singer Natalie under the name Diamond and Onion.
Ras Anada the aforementioned groups were the ones charged with responsibility to lead in playing Peter Tosh’s songs such as Legalise It and Get Up, Stand Up.
The show was basically a success with a very notable reduction in the abuse of marijuana.
Could it be that now the reggae fans understand that this is just but a single day’s event not worth spending quite some time behind bars?
