Nkomeshya canes parents over early marriages

SENIOR Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II of the Soli people of Lusaka Province has taken a swipe at parents and guardians in the tendency of marrying off young girls instead of giving them an education.
Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya said early marriage must be fought tooth and nail by all stakeholders, including parents and guardians who have the responsibility to shape the destiny of their children.
The traditional leader was speaking during the 14th Chibwela Mushi Traditional Ceremony of the Soli people of Chief Mpanshya Kalubangwe II of Rufunsa District on Saturday.
She also commended Government for continuing with the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for peasant farmers in her chiefdom and other parts of the country.
The Senior Chieftainess who is also House of Chiefs chairperson, said the Soli people are hardworking and that her subjects want to contribute to food security at both household and national level.
She, however, appealed to Government to consider delivering subsidised farming inputs to farmers on time if the country is to continue recording bumper harvests Chief Mpanshya Kalubangwe II praised President Michael Sata for his visionary leadership which has seen the transformation of chiefdoms.
Chief Mpanshya Kalubangwe II noted that since the declaration of Rufunsa as a district in 2012, Government has deplored public service workers to the district.
The traditional leader implored public service workers to work hard in helping Governmet in developing the district.
The Chibwela Mushi traditional ceremony is celebrated by the Soli people of Chief Mpanshya Kalubangwe II after returning home from their fields “Mabala.”
