NKANA coach Beston Chambeshi has praised Ronald ‘Sate-Sate’ Kampamba and Barclays Cup record top scorer Simon Bwalya for their performance in Saturday’s semi-final win.
Kampamba won the man-of-the-match award after inspiring Nkana to a 2-0 win over Konkola Blades at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe while all-time Barclays Cup top scorer Bwalya extended his tournament record to eight goals.
Chambeshi said in a post-match interview at Arthur Davies that he was happy his Chipolopolo returnees did not disappointed despite the 38th minute missed penalty by defender Christopher Munthali.
“I think it is good for the boy (Simon Bwalya). A striker must always fight for goals and I am happy the way the boy played and he got good passes for Sate-Sate which was a good win for the boys and I am happy with the way Simon played,” Chambeshi said.
Kampamba set-up Bwalya for Nkana’s second goal in the 45th minute to see him extend his tally after scoring two goals more than his ex-Power club mate Luka Lungu in the Barclays Cup.
“The whole team played very well. For sure we missed Sate-Sate and he came in very strong, even Munthali and Donashano Malama played very well. I think the entire team played very well and I am very happy with the way they played,” Chambeshi said.
Nkana will face Zesco United in the final on November 22 after the latter beat Napsa Stars 1-nil in the lunchtime kick-off at Arthur Davies thanks to an 88th minute goal by Mathews Nkowani.
Meanwhile, Zesco coach George Lwandamina said he was just happy to be in the final to play whichever opponent.
“It was tough but I thought we would have won it in the first half where we created numerous scoring opportunities but that’s how football is it’s not every chance that you can put away,” Lwandamina said.
Winners of this year’s K2 million rich competition will pocket K250,000 with the runner-up getting K150, 000 while the coach and player-of-the-tournament will go away with K10,000 and K5,000 respectively.
