A Kabwe man, who killed his wife and denied ever knowing her, has been sentenced to death by hanging.
During trial, the man’s son and daughter had testified that the phone that was found next to the body of the woman was their father’s.
Vincent Macheleka, aged 40 years, claimed he did not kill his wife but the court still found him with a case to answer.
In passing judgment, Kabwe High Court Judge Elita Mwikisa said the State prosecutor had gathered sufficient evidence against Macheleka and sentenced him to death by hanging.
Macheleka murdered Lydia Mukosha between Augusts 17 and 18, last year.
Meanwhile, three men have been jailed 20 years each with hard labour for causing the death of their friend after a drinking spree.
Ms Justice Mwikisa reduced the sentence for the three Humphrey Mayongo, 32, Brian Chungwa, 28, and Stephen Kangwa, 30, from murder to manslaughter.
The trio killed Justin Kunda in a fight, as they returned home from a drinking spree.
Ms Justice Mwikisa said the action by the three was unacceptable.
