Court official punished for corrupt practices

The Kasama Magistrate’s Court has slapped an assistant court clerk with a 12 months suspended sentence for one count of corrupt practices.
Brian Kabala, 36, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission, (ACC) in June last year and charged with corrupt practices by public officer.
ACC public relations officer Timothy Moono said this in a statement yesterday.
Kabala solicited for K850 and actually received K500 from Daniel Mutambo as an inducement or reward for him to assist Mutambo obtain a favourable judgment in a case that he had before the Kasama Local Court.
In Chililabombwe, the subordinate court convicted Meddy Ngoma, a former safety manager at Grinaker LTA in Chililabombwe corrupt practices.
Ngoma was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2012 and charged with corrupt practices.
He solicited and received K700 cash gratification from Francis Phiri as an inducement or reward for himself in order to facilitate employment for Mr Phiri at Grinaker LTA as a general worker.
Sentencing has been reserved for November 20, this year.
In Solwezi the Commission has arrested two human resources officers of First Quantum Minerals Operations for obtaining money by false pretences amounting to K2,000.
Eugene Lupenga 35, and Graham Kasonso 35, were arrested for obtaining money by false pretences.
The duo between April 1 and May 30 this year, obtained K2,000 from Kennedy Moonga by falsely purporting that they had helped in having Moonga reinstated as a warehouse officer after a disciplinary action against him.
