MMD president Nevers Mumba has urged Zambians to vote for him because the party has changed after rebranding.
Addressing a rally at Chibote grounds in Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township yesterday, Dr Mumba said the MMD was rejected in 2011 when Zambians voted for the Patriotic Front (PF) to allow the former ruling party to repent.
Dr Mumba said under his leadership the MMD would provide a new hope for Zambians by providing access to education, health and would re-introduce agriculture subsidies to ensure that mealie meal and fuel prices are reduced.
“Yes the MMD has reviewed all its sins and went for a convention where I was elected to fight corruption and selfishness and bring a new hope to Zambians by addressing the many challenges such as in the mining sector,” he said.
Dr Mumba said there was no confusion in MMD and assured former Republican president Rupiah Banda that the party was in safe hands under his leadership.
He said the MMD was the only party with structures across the country and that in order for government policies and promises to be implemented, there was need to entrust the leadership with people of good morals and faith
Dr Mumba said once elected, he would ensure that the country has a new Constitution and that under his Cabinet, women would have equal opportunities with men.
He had enough experience to run the affairs of the country as evidenced from the way he led the Victory Bible Ministries, National Coalition Party and at the time he served as Republican vice-president
He said the PF had failed Zambians and demanded that it pays farmers their money for the supply of farming inputs.
Dr Mumba was accompanied by his wife Florence, National Executive Committee members, Mwansa Mbulakulima, Peter Machungwa, Elizabeth Mulobeka, and Howard Kunda.
Meanwhile, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi has urged people to vote for her because she will not make any broken promises.
Ms Nawakwi said for the past fifty years, Zambian people had been forced to live on broken promises by previous Governments.
She was speaking during the launch of the party’s campaigns on the Copperbelt at the Changanamai grounds in Kitwe yesterday.
