THIEVES have stolen 1,725 bags of fertiliser valued at K155,070 from a warehouse belonging to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Mansa.
Police have, however, apprehended two people who were found with 80 bags of fertiliser suspected to be from the lost consignment.
Luapula Province Police Chief Malcom Mulenga said that 1,725 by 50 kilogramme bags of fertiliser were stolen from the FRA warehouse by unknown people, who broke into the depot.
He said police later visited the scene of crime after receiving the report and found that all the locking systems were intact and there were no physical damages.
Further investigations, however, led the police to the recovery of 80 by 50 kilogramme bags of fertiliser from two marketers of Senama market, namely, Jane Mwansa, 32, who was found with three 50 kilogramme bags of fertiliser and a half and Nancy Chola, 24 who, was found with 77 by 50 kilogramme bags of the commodity and a half.
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl died on the spot in a hit-and-run accident that occurred around 22:30 hours in Mwense yesterday.
Mr Mulenga said an unknown motor-vehicle, which was being driven on the Kazembe-Mansa Road, hit into a pedestrian who was crossing the road.
“The deceased was later identified as Justina Katapwe of Kebengele Village in Chief Lukwesa’s area of Mwense District,” he said.
