Letters to the Editor -LogoI would like to welcome back our President and wish him good health as he prepares to take our beloved country to greater heights of prosperity. Indeed you have a very big task of leading this nation.
So my appeal to my fellow citizens is that, we stand United in line with the moto”ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION and give full support to our Head of State.
My advise to our Head of State is that you should not stress, as we the people of Zambia already appreciate your leadership style and are ready to work and support you in any way that would make your continued governance stress-free.
I can also gladly confirm and appreciate that your government is working towards bringing development to the Zambian peoples’ door steps, as the case in North-Western Province where many township roads are earmarked for rehabilitation. Your continued good governance is slowly wining our hearts as citizens of Zambia because we are able to see development where it matters most.
Let me congratulate my fellow youths for turning out in large numbers when we celebrated the Youth Day.
This shows that we are committed towards attaining our social, economic development.
The Youth Day signifies how important we are to our country and the role we have always played for the independence and development of Zambia.
However, I would like us to reflect on our individual achievements and ascertain how far we have reached and posibly set priorities that will help us dictate how we will live our lives for our personal development, and future development of our country at large.
Let’s stand tall, but be aware of some politicians with mind games better known as INTELLECTUAL SOMERSAULTS, bent on discrediting Government developmental works as a way of seeking attention from us s and the general populace

Creative tourism marketing needed

I have waited with great patience to see collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in enhancing our tourism industry. The ministry of Information is very important and so it should be engaged as we strive to make our tourism potential known to the outside world.
Just a few weeks ago, the people of Eastern province celebrated their annual N’cwala ceremony.
With the fact that it was not well advertised so I discovered, one wonders how many easterners were in attendance.
I bet it also didn’t attract as many domestic and foreign tourists as it should have done.
This is just one sector of our tourism industry that suffers lack of advertisement.
Every year, an unexpected smaller number of tourists visit Zambia.
This can be attributed to, among other things, the lack of adequate advertisement which I feel, very little has been done about it.
Having said that, I want to suggest one feasible way of selling our tourism potential.
As already alluded to, journalists must be engaged at all levels.
For example, a reporter and a filming crew can be assigned to make a documentary about our wildlife. These people can visit various game parks and reveal the incredible features that make them habitable to animals. Tourists would very much want to know all these about our wildlife.
Not only that, another reporter can make a documentary about our traditional ceremonies too. He or she can explain the history, way of life and beautiful features that make our ceremonies remarkably exciting to watch.
These documentaries can be broadcast on the world’s electronic media like the BBC, Deutch Welle, CNN and Aljazeera among them.
I am confident that if we use such initiatives, our tourism industry will boom.
I have only talked about our tourism industry but we can do the same thing about our investment opportunities. We can unveil our numerous investment opportunities to the outside world through documentaries.
Until we do this, Zambia will continue to record a smaller number of tourists and investors every year.

K117bn  must benefit deserving retirees

It is good that the government has released K117.59 Billion to the Public Service Pension Fund to pay retirees from the public service sector.
Many of our retirees have been waiting for a long time and it is just proper that the funds benefit all deserving retirees.
The Government’s goodwill and commitment must not be abused by all relevant authorities tasked with the job of serving men and women who have served the nation diligently.

One of the reasons people are complaining about programming of programmes on DStv has also to do with the delivery of commentaries of the Zambian league.
Just this past weekend when the the MTN league started, we thought we will see a changes in terms of facts but alas, we were treated to the same old stuff. Supersport and DStv have been rigid on this issue.
For instance, during the Nkana /Arrows game the commentators throughout the match kept referring to Arrows as Mighty throughout the match.
In the saturday game the commentators were busy saying Forest Rangers are excited to play in the MTN FAZ Premiership. clearly the elite league is super then division one follows in that order. It is evident that the commentators dont know that premiership refers to all FAZ divisions.
Please are we tired?
